A chinese gambling ring has been arrested after placing bets on the World Cup. The group of 21 gamblers were arrested following a massive crackdown on online gambling by the Chinese government. It was reported that the 21 gamblers were under constant surveillance
by the local police department for 4 months and it is alleged that they have wagered over $a300,000 at online casinos and by placing bets on the World Cup in South Africa.The Chinese government has been cracking down on illegal online gambling since the beginning of 2010 and their doesn’t seem to be any end in sight. They are now stepping up efforts to find and prosecute individuals that place a bet on the FIFA World Cup. Up to this point, their has been over 3,600 people arrested and over $100 million in gambling funds seized by the government.
Chinese citizens enjoy gambling but they are restricted from all forms of online gambling, and the only real gambling opportunity that is available in mainland China is the national lottery.
